evaluative analysis of my short film.

Image
Acts of Kindness I have created a 5-minute short film which follows a young woman wandering in a forest, alone and confused. I chose to  represent  a young woman because the contrast of vulnerability in Arrival and manipulation displayed in  Echo  shown through the micro elements of film form intrigued me. This sense of innocence was important to me because I wanted the audience to believe that she was in danger, and then realise only towards the end that she was instead in control and a threat to others. I think the juxtaposing naivety and awareness of the main character is evident through my use of micro elements. For instance, the  character expression and movements  are effective and believable, so the audience are able to develop a sense of empathy and understanding (for the majority of the film). I think it is the character expression which at the beginning makes my character conform to the stereotypical gender norms shared in society and often portrayed in film, and more s

final cut of short film

rough cut of short film

Image
A simple rough cut of my short film. I have gathered all of the footage that I have taken and put it in order so that the story makes sense to the audience. However, I had initially intended that the narrative of my short film would be chronological with flashbacks weaved in and so I realised that when I had put the footage together, that the film needs to be edited and shuffled so that the sequence of events makes sense. I am happy with my rough cut because I think I gathered quite a lot of good footage that will be used in my final edit, and in my rough cut I had deleted a few pieces of footage that had not relevance or importance to my story or its plot. The final cut will be different because I will have to edit all of the footage that I have and condense or delete it so that my short film is no longer than five minutes, I will cut and shorten a lot of the takes that I have filmed because I was able to gather a lot of different camera angles and so this is important during c

PLOT SYNOPSIS - ACTS OF KINDNESS The film begins with a young women walking confused and disorientated through a forest. She has blood on her t-shirt and appears to be looking for help. It is intertwined with flashbacks of the night before and the audience discovers at the end why she is wandering in the forest, alone and why her top is bloodied; whether she is in danger or not.

rehearsal footage - final edit

Image
In my rehearsal footage I have shown three different locations, I did look briefly at others, but I knew that they wouldn’t suit my intentions for the film, they didn’t have the correct lighting, or they would be too difficult to film in because of their accessibilities. I had imagined what I wanted the location to look like when I first started to write my story, I wanted it to be quite dark and oppressive to suit the narrative, and the first location I used in my rehearsal footage isn’t the final location I will be using because it was too light and open. I did however like the beach and the forest next to the beach so I will likely use this location in my film. I also liked the actor I used in the rehearsal footage because I am making a silent film and won’t be having a script or dialogue and so character expression and movement is an important part in my film, and I think my actor understood this and did it well. I am going to change the costume too, I didn’t want to buy the

cuts and transitions

Image
In the post-production process of  film  editing and video editing, a  cut  is an abrupt, but usually trivial  film  transition from one sequence to another. A  film transition  is a technique used in the post-production process of  film  editing and video editing by which scenes or shots are combined. Most commonly this is through a normal cut to the next shot.
